Robots and Vamps

Preacher is one of my favorite graphic novels of all time so this is good news.  It is a shame that HBO turned it down as I believe this story would have worked better on HBO than a movie, but beggers cannot be choosers.   Story from Slice of Sci-Fi:

“Mendes Will Direct Preacher

HBO may have passed on adapting the popular comic book series “Preacher,” but that hasn’t kept the project down. Variety reports that Acadamy Award nominated director Sam Mendes has signed on to direct the big-screen adaptation for the long-running comic book series.

“Preacher” is a supernatural project, which would be new ground for Mendes. Mendes has experience directing a big-screen adaptation of a popular comic book or graphic novel based property. He directed Tom Hanks in “Road to Perdition.”

Created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, “Preacher” focuses on the preacher of a Texas town, who is struggling to get by and is driven only by his strong moral sense. When the city is decimated by an otherworldly force, he embarks on a journey across the country to take on the evil.

“Preacher” will be produced by Neal Moritz through Sony’s Original Film production company with Jason Netter, Ken Levin and Ori Marmur serving as executive producers.

No word yet on casting for the project or when production will begin.“
