Year OneBox Office: $43.3 Million

Spoiler summary: Banished from their primitive village after the tribe elders deem them too lazy, Zed (Jack Black) and Oh (Michael Cera) leave everything they’ve ever known behind and embark upon an adventure-filled journey through the ancient world. Imagine That (PG)

Imagine That dvdBox Office: $16.1 Million

Run Time: 107 minutes

Spoiler summary: Evan Danielson is a successful financial executive who has more time for his blackberry than his seven-year-old daughter. When he has a crisis of confidence and his career starts going down the drain, however, he finds the solution to all his problems in his daughter’s imaginary world.

My Life in Ruins (PG-13)

My Life in Ruins dvdBox Office: $8.5 Million

Run Time: 95 minutes

Spoiler summary: Immerse yourself in this sunny, uplifting romantic comedy starring Oscar® nominee Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and Academy Award® winner Richard Dreyfuss. Vardalos delivers a charming performance as Georgia, a recently laid-off — though anything but laid-back — history professor-turned-travel guide to a motley crew of hilariously crass tourists. Georgia is fed up and ready to give up — until her new confidant Irv (Dreyfuss) opens her eyes and heart to a simple fact: There’s no finer way for a woman to find her kefi (a.k.a. mojo) than to lose herself in the arms of the “Greek god” (Alexis Georgoulis) who’s been hiding right under her nose!

Anvil! The Story of Anvil (Not Rated)

Anvil! The Story of Anvil dvdBox Office: $0.5 Million

Run Time: 80 minutes

Spoiler summary: At 14, Toronto school friends Steve “Lips” Kudlow and Robb Reiner made a pact to rock together forever. They meant it. Their band, Anvil, went on the become the “demigods of Canadian metal,” releasing one of the heaviest albums in metal history, 1982’s Metal on Metal. The album influenced a musical generation, including Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, that went on to sell millions of records. But Anvil’s career took a different path…straight to obscurity. Director Sacha Gervasi has concocted a wonderful and often hilarious account of Anvil’s last-ditch quest for elusive fame and fortune. His ingenious filmmaking may first lead you to think this is a mockumentary, but it isn’t. It’s fascinating to see the reality of their day-to-day lives as they struggle to make ends meet, take a misguided European tour, and engage in antics on the road-which is not always lined with fans.

Dark Country (R)

When the almost-dead man goes berserk on them, the couple’s nightmare is just beginning. Ron Perlman (Hell Boy) and Lauren German also star in this chiller penned by Guerillas in the Mist writer Tab Murphy.

It’s Alive (R)

It's Alive dvdRun Time: 80 minutes

Spoiler summary: When a young woman (Bijou Phillips) learns she is pregnant, she leaves graduate school to move to the country with her boyfriend in this remake of the classic 1970s horror film. The fate of the happy new family takes a gruesome turn when animals and people end up brutally dead – all with a strange connection to their newborn. Could their new child be the monster responsible for the gruesome murders?

Trick ‘r Treat (R)

Trick 'r Treat dvdRun Time: 82 minutes

Spoiler summary: It is said that Halloween is the night when the dead rise to walk among us and other unspeakable things roam free. The rituals of All Hallows Eve were devised to protect us from their evil mischief, and one small town is about to be taught a terrifying lesson that some traditions are best not forgotten. Nothing is what it seems when a suburban couple learns the dangers of blowing out a Jack-o-Lantern before midnight; four women cross paths with a costumed stalker at a local festival; a group of pranksters goes too far and discovers the horrifying truth buried in a local legend; and a cantankerous old hermit is visited by a strange trick-or-treater with a few bones to pick. Costumes and candy, ghouls and goblins, monsters and mayhem…the tricks and treats of Halloween turn deadly as strange creatures of every variety–human and otherwise–try to survive the scariest night of the year.
