Rav’s Top 5 TV Series of 2009
Christel | December 28, 2009 | 6:18 amIt is time for the first annual RaV awards, where we run down our top 5 favorites for the year in several categories. Today’s category is TV. Here are the Top 5 TV series we watched and enjoyed this year.
After the accountants brought back the vote tabulation (okay, Matt & I just voted and added our points together) the results are as follows…
5. Dollhouse – the second half of this season only! - Dollhouse barely sqeaked into our top 5 due to it’s mediocre qualities early in the year.
Actually it was down right BORING! Once Joss Whedon found out the show was being canceled, he turned on the afterburners and the result is a fast paced, action packed, kick ass show! ummm. perhaps this approach should have been employed a bit sooner.

4. True Blood – Allan Ball does a great job capturing the essence of the characters from
Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Mysteries and embellishing them a bit. With a dose of humor and social awareness he brings the little town of Bon Temps and its inhabitants to life. I actually thought this sophmore season was better than the last. Oh, and there are Vampires of course! So yeah… Love it!

3. Fringe, Battlestar Galactica and Supernatural ( 3 way tie) - Well we couldn’t leave out any of these great shows and since we don’t watch them all together we decided to make #3 a tie.
Fringe - A great show! Fantastic episodes every week. Walter and Peter really make the show great. Whether it be a story arc episode or a monster of the week episode, I am always entertained. One bad thing, they killed off Charlie. I really liked Charlie.

Supernatural – Ah, my boys! Who dosen’t love the boys? This show is always witty and fun, and even though alot of people don’t like the whole apocalypse-heaven v. hell-vibe they have going on this year, I love it! I love the wit and humor the writers come up with, like when the boys attend their own convention and get mixed up with a bunch of LARPers. That was just hysterical! But one thing, the boys are getting a bit too brooding. They are ridden with anxiety over their bro-mance. Seems like they are breaking up every other episode. Get over it already!
Battlestar Galactica – It is hard believe that it was almost a year ago when Battlestar aired the last half of their final season. Man it was a kick ass ride all the way up to the finale. The main reason this show is at number 3, instead of 1 or 2, was the final 2 episodes. It was a disappointing ending and what happened to Starbuck really pissed me off. But up to that point it was one of the best shows on TV and Battlestar will be sorely missed.
x
2. LOST – Lost is A-MA-ZING! Lost was a close tie with the #1 show on our list. We can’t wait for it to start up again in 2010. I miss all of the characters and I am dying to see how this all ends. We have been hanging in suspense for 5 years and it is about time we learn a little more about the Island. Of course, once it is over, I will miss this show terribly. But you know what they say, nothing can last forever! Except maybe on DVD…
And the envelope please….
drumroll…….
The winner of the 2009 RaVon award for Best TV Series is DEXTER

Dexter is a great show and towards the end of the season they really hit a home run! This show creeps me out every week and I love Dexter’s internal monologue. You never know quite where this show is heading and BAM! out of no where they just blindside you with something that bowls you over. The last scene in the season ender was just wild. I never expected them to take out Rita, and it hit me like a ton of lead! Who would’ve thought? Still gives me the heebie jeebie’s!

The only one of those shows I’ve watched is Dollhouse. I agree that it got really awesome after it was announced that it was canceled. Too bad they didn’t start with the awesome earlier.
